God bless the female chimeras who remove their spectacles at night, shaking loose their untamed manes. The ones transforming into feral once the day’s duties have been honored as much as is possible. We sometimes climb out the windows of our psyches by night to traverse the internal wildness of our own terrains. We experience convergence zones of sturm und drang. The moon will be in full. It will wane. Once in a while, the right man might entice us to play by throwing a tiny piece of gravel against the windowpane. It means nothing unless he’s worthy of trust.
Each new day brings devotion between generations and the shared work of life. Sometimes, we’re simply too tired to unravel. Or we may remain uninterested in engaging where we aren’t received and truly seen as multifaceted beings. There are Indian pantheons, too, which have so many more options of nuanced expressions of the feminine. Some are murderous and vengeful while still bestowing blessings.
Earlier traditions were supplanted by this dichotomy of virgin and whore.
From Mother Mary, to Mary of Magdala with seven demon spirits and as many husbands, to Mary the devotee kneeling at Jesus’ feet as she’s pitted against resentful domestic laborer/sister Martha, there seems to be a historical redaction forcing her sanctioned expression into the two dimensional.
I often wish I could spend time rummaging through the catacombs of actual text and documentation to make my own correlations. What facets of womanhood would we find there??? How might we relate to these mothers, lovers, and sisters if we could see the uncanonized texts for ourselves?
