Not Just Anyone
Marriage, at its core, is more akin to a business partnership - a strategic pooling of resources - than a celebration of love. While love and sexual attraction are factors - functionality is paramount, particularly when considering the creation and raising of the most formidable progeny.
The question should not be limited to - do I love this person? It should extend to - would I build an empire with this person? For a marriage to thrive, it requires the same qualities that sustain a successful venture - aligned values, a shared vision, and a compatible worldview. It should be complementary in the most synergistic way possible. What is their appetite for risk? How do they approach expansion? Will they remain staunchly resilient in times of crisis? Do you each bring specialised skills and would cover each other's blind spots? Do they possess the strategic foresight to network and elevate both of you to the next echelon?
When it comes to children, the real question is - are you selecting for a good parent or a good time? Genetic considerations aside, a fun exhilarating spouse does not necessarily translate into a responsible or capable parent for your future lineage.
You're looking for intrinsic qualities or the makings of someone spectacular. They may already be great, but the goal is to create something even greater together.
Many will point out how rare such a candidate would be - but that's the whole point. You wouldn't go into business with just anyone, so why would you stake your legacy on anything less?
This approach is nothing new - it is already implemented by certain cultures and families from certain echelons, as the focus is on preservation and continuation.
When viewed through this lens, along with the relevant legislation, the "why" behind current marriage trends becomes much more apparent.
Another unspoken aspect is that dating can be incredibly disruptive in terms of time allocation and focus - imagine utilising all the time you've spent floundering over the years into growing your mind or ventures with another.
Food for thought.
