Midwinter Fireflies
One of my favourite memories of a friend was during exam season at university, when we were both desperately trying to mend our respective broken hearts. It was winter - the kind where you could feel the cold almost touching your bones - and as we sat in the car, freezing our nose tips off, Owl City - Fireflies, a long-standing playlist banger, came on.
Without hesitation, we launched into it. We belted it out together at the top of our lungs, almost in a near-cathartic fashion. In doing so, I think some of the pain in our broken hearts dissipated - and the evening suddenly felt a little warmer.
We both own businesses now - he has built something highly impressive from the ground up. But to me, he will always be midwinter Fireflies.
